Thesis:
Molecular epidemiology of the foodborne pathogens Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli. Occurrence and genetic diversity of C. jejuni and C. coli from bulk tank milk and the environment of central California dairies; comparison of MOMP (sequence typing and allele-specific PCR), MLST, and PFGE typing methods for discrimination of C. jejuni clinical (outbreak) and environmental (dairy) strains; use of a new C. coli DNA microarray for genomotyping; invasion and colonization potential of putative host-associated strains of C. coli.2006-2010
USDA-CSREES-NRI 2007-02029. R. Mandrell, USDA-ARS (PD). Role: Collaborator. Title: Ecology and epidemiology of Escherichia coli O157:H7 in fresh produce production regions on the Central California Coast. The goal of this proposal is to examine central coast farms for in-field mechanism(s) of contamination of leafy vegetables and share information with growers. ($470,999).2007-2010
USDA-CSREES-NRI 2006-01240. R. Mandrell, USDA-ARS (PD). Role: Collaborator. Title: Ecology and epidemiology of Escherichia coli O157:H7 in fresh produce production regions of Salinas, California. The long term goal of this proposal is to develop and implement science-based strategies to prevent on-farm contamination of produce with enteric pathogens. ($1.17 million).
