Research Interests

Dr. Garcia is a Project Scientist with a research focus in food safety and food security, applications of biotechnology in food systems, and alternative antimicrobials to combat antimicrobial resistance. Dr. Garcia holds a B.S in Genetics and a Ph.D. In Integrative Pathobiology and completed a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship in Rwanda where she worked to improve dairy production and food safety with a One Health Approach. She has a broad perspective of scientific topics in food safety, animal health, and diagnostic testing as well as extensive knowledge and experience working in high-throughput molecular laboratories. She has carried out successful One Health research programs, outreach and training both domestically and internationally. Aside from her research interests, Dr. Garcia enjoys advancing One Health Education and translating scientific knowledge for the public.
